It should have been an extremely happy day for 25 year old groom, Jugal Kishore and his 23 year old bride-to-be, Indira from Moradabad and Rampur, India, respectively. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when during the varmala ceremony, Kishore had an epileptic seizure and fell to the ground. He was then rushed to the doctors by his relatives.
Indira was upset that Kishore’s family had kept his condition hidden from her and her family. She announced to the guests that she will go through with the ceremony and asked a wedding guest to marry her. The guest turned out to be her sister’s brother-in-law, Harpal Singh.
Singh accepted and they both proceeded with the ceremony, despite protests from Kishore and his family, who had returned after he was treated. Reportedly, silverware and plates were used as weapons in an attempt to get the bride to change her mind, but Indira was not willing to back down. Eventually the police were brought in and a few wedding guests were detained.
A police officer in Rampur told The Times that, “Both families have amicably resolved the matter. The complaints have been withdrawn. Kishore and his family have now returned in peace to Moradabad.”
