2014 saw some excellent performances by actresses in Bollywood! They featured in more varied roles and managed to stand out in the films! They also showcased that they are talented in areas beyond just acting – in fact, many debuted as singers! Read on for the list of top 10 Bollywood actresses of 2014!
10 – Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan has always shined in any film she is in. She is known for her flawless acting talent, and ability to act without overacting. In 2014, she starred in “Bobby Jasoos“, a female-centric role which was produced by Dia Mirza’s production house. She also starred in Shaadi Ke Side Effects. 2015, she has two interesting films lined up, “Kahaani 2” and “Hamari Adhuri Kahaani.”
9 – Parineeti Chopra
Parineeti Chopra, is perhaps one of our favorite bubbly girls! She was part of the multi-starrer, “Kill Dil“, “Daawat-e-Ishq” and “Hasee Toh Phasee” in 2014. Although none of the films were major blockbusters, they continued to add positively to her film resume. We are sure she will continue to impress in 2015, but we do wish she tries out some different roles else she will be type-cast.
8 – Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt may not be the smartest actor Bollywood has, but she can definitely act! She managed to pull off a comedy, “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” opposite Varun Dhawan, but also stood out in “2 States” opposite Arjun Kapoor. Her ease at acting on screen can be seen no matter what film one watches of her. Not to mention, she is also a singer! 2015, she will be starring in “Shaandaar.” I placed her at number 8, since she managed to stay in the news consistently throughout the year, and she has the potential to grow even more in 2015.
7 – Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha is one of the actresses we are sure will reach great heights. This year, she featured in “Lingaa“, “Action Jackson“, and “Holiday.” Next year, she will be seen in the highly anticipated “Tevar,” whose soundtrack is already keeping us entertained! I hope Sonakshi tries out some non-action films next year, as if given the right role, she will truly come into her own.
6 – Katrina Kaif
2014, Katrina Kaif was seen opposite Hrithik Roshan in “Bang Bang.” The film was highly successful and their chemistry loved by all. However, this year, Katrina remained in the news mostly due to her link to Ranbir Kapoor. It is true that she was part of a major blockbuster with “Bang Bang,” but it felt like her real life overshadowed her reel life. Next year, she will be seen in “Jagga Jasoos” and “Phantom.”
5 – Anushka Sharma
Anushka may have had only one release in 2014 – “PK” – but she truly left her mark. Next year, she has already been signed to several films: “Priceless Remake” (announced) (unconfirmed), “Dil Dhadakne Do“(post-production), “Farah” (rumored), “Bombay Velvet” (post-production). In every role she has done, Anushka has captured the hearts of audiences. She has managed to stay in the news throughout the year. 2014 also saw her in the news due to her dating Virat Kohli. We are looking forward to her work in 2015.
4 – Kareena Kapoor
I was debating putting Kareena Kapoor lower on the list, but then realized that she was actually a part of some pretty good films. She had a small role in “Happy Ending,” was in “The Shaukeens” and also the blockbuster, “Singham Returns.” No matter what film she is a part of, Kareena is always a stand-out when it comes to acting. She definitely belongs at number four. 2015, she will be seen opposite Salman Khan in “Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” a special song in “Gabbar” and it is rumored, as a lead in “Golmaal 4.”
3 – Shraddha Kapoor
Shraddha Kapoor proved in 2014 that she is a versatile actress, who has the potential to be the “Priyanka Chopra” of her generation as she can also sing! 2014, we saw her in an item number in “Ungli“, paired opposite Shahid Kapoor in “Haider“, and a lead in “Ek Villain.” In 2015, she will be seen in “Any Body Can Dance 2” and “Milan Talkies.”
2 – Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra is one of the few actresses Bollywood has who truly has international appeal. She has been gaining ground as an actress and singer, and is making a mark wherever she goes. 2014, saw her take on the hard-hitting “Mary Kom” as well as “Gunday.” Her performances in both films were appreciated. 2015, she will be seen in “Bajirao Mastani” and “Dil Dhadakane Do.”
1 – Deepika Padukone
There is no doubt that the Queen of Bollywood in 2014 was Deepika Padukone. She was part of ventures like the blockbuster, “Happy New Year,” and “Finding Fanny.” Her acting prowess is beginning to get more and more recognized, and she already has been signed to some major projects in 2015. For example, she will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next “Bajirao Mastani“, is part of “Piku” and “Tamasha“. Let’s hope she continues to impress in 2015!
