Hasan Minhaj hired by "The Daily Show"

Two new cast members will be joining “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart!”  One is South African comedian, Trevor Noah, a finalist for Personality of the Year at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards and the cover star of the current South African GQ. The other, is our very own South Asian comedian, Hasan Minhaj, who has quickly gained popularity as a comic.  His claim to fame was with an original web series called, “The Truth with Hasan Minhaj,” which we have shared with you many times on UrbanAsian.  At the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, Canada, Minhaj was deemed one of the “New Faces of Comedy.”  Minhaj is also part of the comedy team, Goatface.

It is no surprise that Minhaj was selected for “The Daily Show” since he has slowly been taking over Hollywood with his many projects. Most recently, he was selected by the Sundance Institute to develop a solo show.  New Frontier Story Lab has commissioned him for a feature film titled, “Paint the Town”. Hassan is definitely painting the town!  He has hosted stand up specials for top foundations (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), and has previously appeared on various shows including Netflix’s Arrested Development, HBO’s Getting On, and Comedy Central’s @Midnight, just to name a few. “The Daily Show” seems to attract funny South Asians!  Beginning August 9, 2006, Aasif Mandvi had begun appearing as an occasional contributing correspondent, and on March 12, 2007, he was promoted to a regular correspondent.  Minhaj will take over for Michael Che as a correspondent starting in November.  Now, South Asians can enjoy Mandvi and Minhaj!  How excited are all of you?  I’m thrilled that South Asians are making their presence felt!
