Get some lessons from Priyanka Chopra on Mary Kom!

Acting isn’t easy if you have to pump-up for the roll and we mean really PUMP-UP for it! That includes working out doing weight training and looking fit and similar to the real character you are playing on screen. It’s a lot of sweat and pain but as they say ‘No Pain no Gain’ and it all is worth it in the end. In this case it’s all worth it for Priyanka Chopra who never thought she would be playing a sports character on screen. From doing romance-comedy films to romance and item girl songs and action films she has another genre to add to her list of films on her resume!

If you ever wondered why Priyanka Chopra calls ‘Mary Kom’ her most difficult and challenging movie ever, here’s the answer to that. In a brand new video showcasing behind-the-scenes training sessions of Priyanka during the movie, we get to see the painstaking efforts of the actress during the 3 months of her non-stop training that goes on to continue during the shoot as well.

The video captures the undying spirit of Priyanka Chopra as she pushes herself to be the best under gym trainer Samir Jaura’s guidance. She has trained hard to prepare for her role as the five time world champion and Olympic player MC Mary Kom and has been successful in achieving the brawn look due to her unending fortitude and constant need to evolve herself.

The video reveals that two trainers Hemlata Bagdwal and Jharna Sanghvi from MC Mary Kom’s training team not only taught Priyanka nuances of boxing but also helped her to behave and fight like the Champion boxer. Like everybody else, the resolute actress left them too in awe with her unwavering confidence and ‘never give up’ spirit.

Director Omung Kumar says,

“We needed the trainers to give Priyanka the look of a boxer with a fit body, muscles, shoulders, tack etc. Members from MC Mary Kom’s personal training group along with Rob Miller, an international personality known for Boxing were invited to help her during training. This is not a normal Bollywood film role but one that requires commitment and discipline from the actor.”

Priyanka’s fitness trainer Prashant spoke about the actress’ rigorous workout saying,

“We shot in Manali at minus four degrees and we were doing push ups on the rock and besides the water body which was quite difficult to do.”

Trainer Jhanvi Sanghvi elaborated,

“To act and fight like MC Mary Kom is not easy. She has trained for 15 to 20 years in boxing and to achieve that in a short span is very difficult. Priyanka has worked very hard for role. She wanted to imbibe Mary’s qualities and she would often question me constantly in a bid to perfect Mary’s moves.”

‘Mary Kom’, the film is about the Indian Boxer and Olympic Bronze medallist MC Mary Kom. Depicting her life, struggles, family and her perseverance to be the best!

Directed by Omung Kumar, ‘Mary Kom’ is produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures & Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film is scheduled for release on September 5, 2014.
