Rakshan Bandhan gives you 'Forever Rakhi'

Have you ever had to tie on a rakhi for your brother and it fell off after a few months or he got mad because it looked super big or tacky with so many different colors that he got annoyed about the threading falling apart? Well obviously we all had that one brother or cousin brother say that all the time and usually tell the sister to make one that lasts forever, right? Well not to worry ladies your problem can be solved and that rakhi is bound to stay on FOREVER! What do we mean when we say Forever? As we all know when a Rakhi stays on FOREVER, it’s a sign of good luck and love from your brother!

Raksha Bandhan 2014 will mark the festival when brothers will no longer be holding on to their sisters’ rakhis “by a thread”, and that is what all sisters want

Forever Rakhi (FR), a line of durable, fashion-forward men’s bracelets co-created by New York jewelry designer Meeta Manglani and PR professional and entertainment reporter Jitin Hingorani, is a chic accessory brothers can wear all year long to remind them of their sister’s affection. Ranging in price from $15 to $25 (free shipping), each FR is designed with a specific brother and sentiment in mind.

“I’ve been hand-making rakhis for all my brothers and cousins for years now,” said Manglani. “So, when I made a rakhi for my namesake brother, Jitin, last year, he loved it so much that he wished he could wear it FOREVER. That’s how we came up with the idea of creating a rakhi that men can wear throughout the year as and when they choose, whether they’re at the office or on a night out on the town with friends.”

Each rakhi in the inaugural collection is named after one of Manglani’s brothers, cousins or namesake brothers, and each of the charms is representative of that person’s traits and Manglani’s blessings for him. For example, the Jitin Rakhi has is a yellow slip-knot bracelet with an silver Om charm, which symbolizes prosperity, success and victory.

“A rakhi is a sacred bracelet that represents the love and protection that binds sisters and brothers together,” said Hingorani. “We want sisters to really put some thought into what makes their brother(s) unique and what kind of accessory they see him wearing year-long, instead of making a last-minute, obligatory decision at a grocery store the day before Raksha Bandhan. Why not get him something different this year that he will cherish FOREVER!”

Beyond the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan, Manglani and Hingorani hope their Forever Rakhi trend will cross over into the mainstream psyche.

“At the end of the day, this bracelet comes from a place of love and good wishes from one human being to another. We would love for ALL cultures to embrace this tradition and send a token of their affection to their loved ones without ever having a reason,” said Manglani.

This year, Raksha Bandhan falls on Sunday, August 10. To view the various FR design options and the symbolism behind the charms, please visit www.foreverrakhi.com.
