“I’ve been hand-making rakhis for all my brothers and cousins for years now,” said Manglani. “So, when I made a rakhi for my namesake brother, Jitin, last year, he loved it so much that he wished he could wear it FOREVER. That’s how we came up with the idea of creating a rakhi that men can wear throughout the year as and when they choose, whether they’re at the office or on a night out on the town with friends.”
Each rakhi in the inaugural collection is named after one of Manglani’s brothers, cousins or namesake brothers, and each of the charms is representative of that person’s traits and Manglani’s blessings for him. For example, the Jitin Rakhi has is a yellow slip-knot bracelet with an silver Om charm, which symbolizes prosperity, success and victory.
“A rakhi is a sacred bracelet that represents the love and protection that binds sisters and brothers together,” said Hingorani. “We want sisters to really put some thought into what makes their brother(s) unique and what kind of accessory they see him wearing year-long, instead of making a last-minute, obligatory decision at a grocery store the day before Raksha Bandhan. Beyond the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan, Manglani and Hingorani hope their Forever Rakhi trend will cross over into the mainstream psyche.
“At the end of the day, this bracelet comes from a place of love and good wishes from one human being to another. We would love for ALL cultures to embrace this tradition and send a token of their affection to their loved ones without ever having a reason,” said Manglani.
