Bollywood What's Happenin'

Rani Mukerji plays one powerful female role!

After Sonakshi Sinha and Priyanka Chopra taking boxing classes for their respective films, this time it’s Rani Mukerji who learnt krav maga for ‘Mardaani’ where she plays the role of a crime branch officer.

She has done it once again but will the movie do well? The film ‘Mardaani’ deals with a hard hitting topic of child trafficking but the trailer, which has already caught the viewers’ and critics’ attention, looks promising. And that we agree with as well!

What more, the actress is seen jumping, kicking and punching the bad guys in the film for which Rani says that she has undergone an extensive training in Krav Maga, an Israeli form of martial arts!

Sharing her experience of the extensive training for the action scenes in the film, Rani said during the trailer launch of her upcoming film,

“My experience was great. I did learn Krav Maga, which is an Israeli martial arts self defence form for which I had to undergo extensive training for my sequence. The instructors, who are from Delhi, took me through an entire series of teaching me what are the different self defence techniques that women can use in terms of the danger that they face on a day to day level. And krav maga emphasizes on the fact that you don’t have to be physically strong to protect yourself… like log bolte haina ke aap gym karo to become strong or lift up weights and become strong and then fight, but krav maga actually believes that however strong you are as long as you know the technique correctly you can actually come out of any difficult situation.”

The actress believes that Krav Maga is an excellent way of self defence for women considering the number of cases of violation against them. Rani further said,

“The question always arises that when a man is much stronger and comes in front of you how do you defend. And krav maga has the answers. I was actually intrigued and I actually learnt some of the forms of self defence and hopefully I’ll use them if I ever need to.”

What more, apart from the extensive training the actress is also said to have done an extensive research about women in the police for her role of a strong crime branch official in the film.

“I did a lot of research for this film. I met lots of lady inspectors and got inspiration from them. I want the people of India to know how much lady inspectors have contributed to our lives. People think just because they are ladies they won’t be as strong as male officers but that is not true,” said Rani.

Let’s hope that this film will also help stop the issue but even spread the word of what goes on in India and how folks in India can stop or lessen the issue overall. Check out Mardaani which is soon to release this year!
