When I saw the trailer I thought one word – WOW! Finally a movie and trailer which has released that talks about one of the biggest issues in India! India is the world’s hub for child sex trafficking and nearly 40,000 children are abducted every year! This film looks super interesting and might just be one to watch! Not only one to watch but one which will hopefully wake India up and send a message out to everyone.
Every 8 minutes a girl child goes missing in India! The stats are insane and super heartbreaking! We live in a world where so much hate happens everyday! War, corruption, rape and many other social issues. Although, India having one of the biggest one is ‘Child Sex Trafficking’.
Meet Shivani Shivaji Roy, Senior Inspector, Crime Branch, Mumbai Police, as she sets out to confront the mastermind behind the child trafficking mafia, which makes the mistake of kidnapping and smuggling a teenage girl who is like a daughter to her.
Fighting a war which is very personal and in an obsessive hunt for the girl, Shivani stumbles into the world of debauchery, cruel desires and exploitation and onto a case that will change her life forever. What follows is a cat and mouse game between a fearless cop and a young and ruthless mafia kingpin.
The description of the trailer on YouTube reads – “Bold. Strong. Fearless. Watch Rani Mukerji in YRF’s boldest movie ever, ‘Mardaani’.”
And it truly seems to be.
Produced by Rani’s husband Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner, and directed by Pradeep Sarkar, “Mardaani” comes across as a raw and gritty tale in which the actress seems to be displaying women power at its best.
She kicks, slaps, runs, punches – everything a Bollywood ‘hero’ would do. There are no frills to her look – it’s simple, understated and suits her role to a T.
“The film’s story takes an interesting curve when a teenage girl is kidnapped by the child trafficking mafia and smuggled outside the city. Shivani then embarks on a relentless hunt for the girl and what follows is a cat and mouse game between the fearless cop and a ruthless mafia kingpin,” the statement had said.
The trailer proves that there is a serious social issue that the film tackles in a smart and gripping way. The movie is slated to release Aug 22.
