Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor & Abhishek Varman talk '2 States'

2 states which is making buzz across the globe and receiving a lot of attention is heading to theaters in a few weeks all around the globe and they had a chance to tell us how it was working on the film and the project! Check out what the cast had to say!

Alia Bhatt

Q: What was it like working with Arjun Kapoor for 2 States?

A: It was such a blessing. I have nothing but respect for Arjun, and I really consider him one of my closest friends. He’s a very funny person, with a great sense of humour, and has always made me feel so comfortable on set. I’m sure it’s a friendship that we will carry for a long time.

Q: You two have been linked together on several occasions. How does it feel when the press start speculating about your relationship?

A: It doesn’t really bother me. It comes with the territory, I guess. What I will say is that I like to keep my personal life private, so most of the time it is just speculation from the media. My main concern is that stories and speculation regarding my personal life never impact or hinder my career as an actress.

Q: What drew you to 2 States?

A: I was a huge fan of Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel, of the same name, and remember reading it when I was shooting ‘Student of the Year’. I thought it was a beautiful book, and I’m very proud to be a part of the movie.

Q: How do you feel about comparisons to Kareena Kapoor?

A: I consider them very flattering, as I am such a big fan of hers, but I think there’s only one Kareena Kapoor out there. She’s managed to carve a wonderful career for herself, like numerous other actresses I respect and admire, and I hope to be able to do the same in the future. I like to think I have my own style though, and I think it’s always important to carve out your own niche in the industry.

Q: You’re very careful about the projects you pick. What are you looking for in a role?

A: There are a lot of things that can draw me to a script. As an actor, I’m always looking for diversity and want to make sure that I avoid being stereotyped. When I had my debut in ‘Student of the Year’, people immediately assumed that I would always be playing the baby-doll, diva kind of characters. ‘Highway’ was a totally different kind of role and not at all what anyone was expecting, and I hope people will continue to see my versatility as an actress with the release of 2 States.

Q: There are a lot of rumours going around about you and Alia – is any of it true? Are you just friends or is there something more?

A: I am very sorry to disappoint you, but we are only friends! Actually she is one of my very good friends. We get on really well; we have a lot in common. I did not expect that I could be a part of a great movie and find a very good friend at the same time.

Q: There are a lot of similar love stories out there about a boy meeting a girl, falling in love and facing all kinds of obstacles. How is 2 States different?

A: First of all, 2 States is based on Chetan Bhagat’s best- selling novel. Second of all, the storyline and the characters are different. Also, I think, the problems that Krish and Ananya face are very common, and a lot of people can relate to them.

Q: What is your favourite scene in 2 States?

A: I don’t think I can pick out one scene. The whole film is very interesting and catching. I had so much fun filming it!

Q: Did you enjoy working with your co-stars?

A: Absolutely! The whole working process was so great and all of us got on really well. I hope that this is not the last time that I will be working with Alia, Ronit, Amrita, Shiv and all the others.

Q: All of your family is really involved in the film industry – how did you decide you wanted to be an actor? Was it something you wanted since you were little?

A: When I was little I really wanted to be a director and I actually tried my hand at that. But later I changed my mind and decided that acting is the way to go. I always knew that I wanted to be in the film industry, I guess it was in my blood.

Abhishek Varman

Q: 2 States is your first project as a director. What drew you to this project?

A: I’ve worked with Karan Johar [producer of 2 States] on a number of other projects, as his Associate Director, and so he initially approached me, asking me what I thought of the project. I was immediately excited by the prospect.

Q: Were you a fan of the book?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8HKNHhEDRU
A: Definitely. I think Chetan [Bhagat] is a fantastic author, and I think the book encapsulates a timeless romantic story that’s very relatable. The fact that Chetan was drawing from his own personal experiences added a depth to the book that I really appreciated.

Q: With Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor both experiencing a lot of buzz recently, is there now an added pressure for 2 States to perform well?

A: I guess that’s one way to look at it, but I think both actors are incredibly talented, as shown by some of their past projects, and they interpreted the characters from the book perfectly. It’s also an added bonus that they have great chemistry together, as that’s not something you can guarantee until you begin filming.

Be sure to check out the film which hits theaters this April 18th worldwide in theaters!
