Vikram Singh is one of the lead stars of the upcoming Bollywood action drama Ya Rab which is released on 7th Feb, 2014. He is from Delhi and has done his schooling from Chandigarh. An adventure sports enthusiast, Vikram has been involved in amateur boxing, sky diving and horse riding as a matter of routine. He has been in Mumbai since the past 7 years and has appeared in 3-4 films till now. His forthcoming projects include Heropanti which is set to release in May, 2014.
Q. Tell us about the character you play in Ya Rab…
I play Imran Khan who is a soft spoken, family boy. He is the son of a prominent Lucknow cleric. Though I am a Hindu, I am playing a Muslim boy in the film. Having said that, the film is not about Hindus or Muslims, it’s a beautiful message oriented film about Islam.
Q. What kind of research did you do for your role?
While shooting in Lucknow, I picked up the language and mannerisms of the Muslim community and the locals at large. On my part, I have tried to understand and introduce their tehzeeb, adab and mithaas (politeness, courtesy and sweetness) in my role.
Q. How was it working with your co-stars in Ya Rab?
If on the one hand there were veterans like Manzar Sehbai and Akhilendra Mishra, on the other, there were newcomers like Ajaz Khan and Arjumman Mughal. While there was a difference in terms of experience, I got to learn a lot from each of them.
Q. Any takeaway from the film?
Even though I have a lot of Muslim friends, being a Hindu-Punjabi guy, I didn’t know much about Islam or The Qu’ran. It was while shooting Ya Rab I realized about the beauty of this religion, I was touched by the sweetness of this film.
Q. Your thoughts about the Director of Ya Rab?
Mr. Hasnain Hyderabadwala, he has done a great job. All credit to him for realizing the film to its true potential. I think he has justified the subject of the film.
Q. Given that Mr. Mahesh Bhatt is backing Ya Rab, did you get to interact with him during the shooting or otherwise.
First of all, I’d like to thank Mr. Mukesh Bhatt and Mr. Mahesh Bhatt for extending their support to Ya Rab. They’re the backbone of this film right from its promotion to its release. I got to interact with Mr. Mahesh Bhatt once we were done with the shooting of the film.
But, when he saw the trial for the first time, I was with him and when he came out he commended me on my work (bahut achcha kaam kiya hai) and asked me how many films I had done. I said I had done 3-4 films to which he replied that I had done Ya Rab with all my sincerity!
