For the longest time it has given the world of cinema the ability to showcase the finest of talents from across the globe on various dynamic platforms. With that being said, the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) is one of the oldest, most highly reputed, and prestigious South Asian film festivals that recognizes and honors some of the most exquisite actors and filmmakers (new and old) in marking their persistent vision to showcase a certain cinematic element on screen. Each year has surpassed the previous year in outdoing the standards of the festival, to provide a significant launching pad for deserving artists. This year, the festival will be held from April 30th– May 4th.

The festival being a 5 day affair, 2 of the most important days are the Opening and Closing Nights. The Opening Night is initiated with a screening of a film that is selected by the esteemed jury members, where invited guests, celebrities, actors and filmmakers walk the red carpet, along with the press and media being present at the venue to interview them as they walk in for the film. This year, NYIFF 2013 will be screening Dekh Tamasha Dekh directed by Feroz Abbas Khan at NYU’s Skirball Center for Performing Arts. Right after the screening, there will be an exclusive Gala Dinner that is organized only for invited guests and filmmakers at the same venue.

The Film Festival will end on May 4th with Filmistan directed by Nitin Kakkar, screening as the Closing Night feature, at the Skirball Center once again. This is yet another heart wrenching film that has already begun to receive critical acclaim for its cinematic appeal and remarkable direction. The Closing Night ends with the much anticipated awards ceremony which is nominated by the Jury for the Best Film, Best Documentary, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Young Actor, Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, and the Audience Choice for Best Feature Film. The festival at the end of this month, will promise to cater to its potential of living up to the expectations of those that come every year to promote its mass appeal among a vast section of South Asians living in New York and in other parts of North America.
