VJ Sophiya Haque passes away in London

VJ Sophiya Haque passed away January 17th, 2013 in London at the age of 41. The British Asian star was an actress, singer, and host. Although the cause of her death and details are still unknown, rumor has it that the beautiful star was diagnosed with cancer late 2012. Times of India reports that she went into the hospital when she caught pneumonia and while undergoing tests for her cancer treatment, a clot in her lungs caused her death.

Haque was born to a British mother and Bangladeshi father. She started her rise to fame as a singer in the band Aksas in 1989. She then went on to dance in a number of Bollywood flicks like Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and  Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey (later remade into Saathiya). Haque was most known for her roles in West End productions like the popular “Bombay Dreams,”The Far Pavilions” and “Wah Wah Girls.” She appeared in BBC’s “Fairy Tales” series alongside Denise Van Outen. The multi-talented artist was also in the 2008 British soap opera, “Coronation Street” as “Poppy.” Haque was also known for her hosting talents, she used to host for two of India’s most popular music networks, MTV India and Channel V, in the 90’s.

Her more recent work included a role in the movie “Wanted” starring Angelina Jolie. Everyone that has worked with Haque has only kind words to say about how hard working, vibrant and kind the actress was. It is a sad loss for the fraternity to lose such a beautiful soul.
