AmitSadh1

UA: Like your costar Sushant Singh, you too rose to fame via a TV soap – Neena Gupta’s “Kyon Hota Hai Pyarr.” Did you ever imagine that you would soon break into Bollywood?

Acting is my passion… So my aspirations were definitely set in every sphere where I could fulfill this passion. One only wishes that you can take strides to widen your sphere. So my hopes and dreams were to work!

UA: Your first Bollywood movie was Phoonk 2, but you have a more etched out role in Kai Po Che. What was it like transitioning to the big screen? Were you more nervous for your debut or for Kai Po Che?

“Kai Po Che” is god sent.  One hopes in their career to get a role that has a graph that encompasses one and challenges them.  Omi Shastri did that for me!

amit-sadh2UA: Do you have formal training in acting and what inspired you to become an actor?

I did decide that I was at a standstill point where acting was concerned so i took my savings as a tv actor and moved to New York and studied at Lee Strausburg. I was inspired to be an actor as I am intrigued by the ability to put aside oneself and create a different you. It’s a great medium to connect with your emotions and understand a human mind and the complexities.

UA: Is it true that you did not know much Hindi when you broke into the world of TV? Obviously you learn quickly, since you have landed a role in a Hindi movie! What did you do to teach yourself the language? What other languages do you speak?

Yes, I didn’t. I started thinking in Hindi. I decided to only speak it incessantly with everyone who spoke well. I read Hindi – the newspaper. I read plays.

UA: Which actors and actresses (Bollywood/Hollywood) do you wish you will work with in the future?

Amitabh Bachchan. Daniel Day Lewis. Other than that I want to be a part of great films and repetitive with great film makers

Amit1UA: Tell our readers a bit about the character you play in the film and how you prepared for the role.

I play “OMI”, as he is fondly called… Omkar Shatri.  He is a son of a head priest.  In terms to friendship – he is a sweetheart of his friends, as he is always there for them.  It’s a coming of age film, of bonding and friendship and the tests life puts them through.  I have a great graph in the film for which I did have to prepare both physically and emotionally.

UA: What is your favorite moment from filming Kai Po Che and how was the experience working with your fellow actors? Any funny stories you can share with us?

I have a very emotional scene in the film, while filming it the entire cast and crew has supported me and respected my process through it; that was my favorite.  My fellow actors were eminently supportive and our camaraderie was cohesive.

UA: Thank you so much for doing this interview!  We wish you the best for your movie and career!  Looking forward to seeing your role!
