British Asian journalist, writer and media commentator Asjad Nazir has been the most trending name on Twitter in India for the past five days! Why you ask? Well, tens of thousands of tweets have been pouring in from all over India voting for Asjad Nazir’s world famous list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Men and Women, which he annually writes for the UK’s most established newspaper Eastern Eye!
According to Twirus_India (http://india.twirus.com) he has been more popular than big Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, media organizations like NDTV and even big named politicians! India based fans have been so determined to get their favorite Indian celebrities to the top spot that the most popular trending topic in India this week has been #SexyList2012 which is a tag that Nazir created.
Other popular trending topics connected to the list have been #NiaSharma and #KushalTandon, which have been ahead of cricket tags despite England playing India. Nazir said:
“One of the main reasons this has been a record-breaking year in terms of votes is that fans of Indian serials Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? have been giving serious competition to fans of Bollywood stars. That is why this year the highest placed newcomers will come from these TV serials.“
Bollywood stars have traditionally topped the list every year. Last year Hrithik Roshan was named the Sexiest Man on the planet and Kareena Kapoor beat off Katrina Kaif by less than one per cent to be named the Sexiest Woman. Past winners of the respective lists have included Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif, who won three years in a row.
“The list captures the imagination of people from all over the world every year with fans voting from across the globe and that is why it has become the definitive list of the sexiest Asian men and women on the planet,” said Nazir.
Asjad Nazir will announce this year’s winners first on www.twitter.com/asjadnazir. The list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women will be published on December 7 and the list of 50 Sexiest Asian Men will be published on December 14 in Eastern Eye.
