English Vinglish releases in India on October 5, 2012!

Your all-time favorite movie?

That’s a hard one! I just love watching movies, especially foreign ones! If I had to name a few, I’d say Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and The Artist.

Three words you’d use to describe English Vinglish director Gauri Shinde?

Friendly, successful, energetic, funny…clearly I can’t stop at just three words!

English Vinglish is about a woman’s struggle to learn a language foreign to her. If you could learn any language, which one would you pick?

Italian! I absolutely love the language and would love to learn it. Anybody want to teach me?

Your guilty pleasure?

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream.

Your very first acting gig?

An independent film called Occasional Justice where they flew us out to Illinois to shoot in the middle of nowhere. It was a fun experience!

When you were young you wanted to become a…?

Pilot.

Sridevi’s character in English Vinglish is a laddoo making expert. What’s your culinary specialty?

I can make some amazing Italian dishes with fresh pasta and a killer special sauce that I invented myself (yes, I have a love for everything Italian)!

Your hidden talent?

I’m double jointed, although I’m not quite sure what good that will do to anyone!

Most listened-to song on your iPod?

I just love music, so it’s tough to pick one song I listen to the most. Lately it’s been a lot of Rihanna. I also like to tone it down and listen to Bob Marley and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Most memorable moment of shooting English Vinglish?

All of us wearing saris that barely covered us on freezing outdoor sets, and sticking hand warmers wherever we could just to stay warm during the shoot!
