Fashion's Night Out at Shehnaai Couture

Shehnaai Couture, New York’s leading fashion house of India’s runway designs – all straight from Lakme Fashion week – kicked off NYC Fashion Week with its Second Annual Fashion’s Night Out Party at its Fifth Avenue studio.

Actors, artists, media and celebrities all filled the star-studded soiree including Joya Dass, Purva Bedi, Ami Sheth, Vidur Kapur, Mitu Chilana, Neha Uberoi, Shetal Shah, and the cast of the new movie Pyar Mein Kyun?

Don’t worry readers, thanks to a last minute trip to NYC I got to rep for UrbanAsian in style at the event and have got all the gossip for you from the night!

Straight off the runway from Lakme Fashion Week, India’s hottest couture by designers such as Sabyasachi, Saa.n.She, Rohit Bal and Vikram Phadnis, were showcased throughout the studio.  Bright saris, lehngas and suits, designed with impeccable detail, were on display in an art meets fashion installation by designer Mariusz Podkalicki.  The centerpiece was inspired by the bright colors of a late summer garden with pieces from the collection adorned in peacock feathers, flowers, gold accented butterflies and parasols.  It truly brought the Indian theme to life and was a talking point for all attending.  Not to mention, the display was painted free-hand by artist Saima Yousef of Studio 2012 during the event.

Owner of Shehnaai Couture, Shirin Vinayak, shared her thoughts on the latest additions to the collection from her recent trip to India,

“We are seeing a lot more gowns from Indian designers.  Our collection for this season reflects the growing fusion designs come from some of India’s top couture designers in both evening and bridal wear.”

Along with the collection from Shehnaai Couture, guests shopped fine jewelry, clutches, and scarves by Aniika.com. The fashion party included music by DJ Insomnia, cocktails from Kingfisher and Eldorado Rum, hors d’oeuvres catered by Benares, and mini glittery cupcakes by The Cake Designer, whose cupcakes are slowly but surely becoming a staple at all the NY desi events!

Overall the night featured the hottest and greatest in Indian designer fashion.  The hard work put into the show by Ayesha Bibi Hakki (owner/editor of Bibi Magazine) along with Shehnai Couture’s, Shirin Vinayak, and many others behind the scene provided another successful night in NYC!  I’m already looking forward to next year!

Keep it locked to Urban Asian!
