Sexy model, actress and reality star, Sherlyn Chopra has managed to snag the cover of Playboy!
Sherlyn Chopra is the first Indian to pose nude for the cover of Playboy. Chopra has broken down barriers and gone boldly here no other Indian actress has gone before. She called her victory an “honor and a great privilege” on Twitter. The magazine cover will be published either in December 2012 or early next year. Though Sherlyn Chopra is very excited about spending quality time with Hugh Hefner, meeting the girls and making new friends, not everyone is happy with her photoshoot.
Some women’s rights advocates in the country state that India has already “sexualized” women and the nude shoot will only “heighten the stereotypes.” Among the protestors, a social worker from Delhi, Sunita Gudnanti, told Bikyamasr.com that she is disappointed in Chopra’s decision to do the photoshoot. Gudnanti said:
“I have heard so many stories of women being beaten up by their spouses or boyfriends because they refused to do something the man read or saw online, so the idea that an Indian woman will go nude for the magazine is likely to sexualize the issue of women’s rights and heighten the stereotypes that women are objects.”
Chopra told the Times of India:
“I’m proud to be the first Indian to do it… The youth is racing towards liberalization, and that’s why being unconventional in your choices is no longer a taboo.”
