Student of the Year hasn’t even released yet, but Karan Johar and his production house, Dharma Productions, are set for another movie launch!
We’re used to seeing rom-coms and family drama’s from Dharma Productions, but with it’s upcoming movie Gippi, Karan has added another feather to Dharma’s cap. There are two unique features about this movie. This is the first time that Dharma Productions is launching a female director! In addition, the genre of this movie is something to look out for.
Dharma Productions has explored various genres right from the super hit romantic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to action packed Agneepath! However, Gippi is the first children’s movie to come from the Dharma Productions camp.
The director for the movie is Sonam Nair who has already been associated with Dharma Productions as she was assisting Ayan Mukherji in Wake Up Sid. Shooting is already underway. In fact, a major portion of the movie has already been shot in Shimla and shooting in Mumbai is currently in progress.
Auditions for the lead actor were conducted across India by the director herself for several aspiring young actors. After a long series of auditions finally 13 year old, Delhi based Riya Vij was selected. She has no prior experience of performing in front of the camera, but is a perfect match for the role of Gippi.
