*EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW* UrbanAsian Speaks to Dav-Eh!

He’s new to the scene but has already shared a stage and performed with big names in the industry such as the Culture Shock Trio, Raghav, Parichay, and Navin Kundra to name a few. His first single, Fly Away, came out a few years ago and now he’s all set to release his 2nd single along with his album. He performed at desiFEST for the first time last year and has now been invited back to make his fans “Fly Away”. We’re talking about none other than Dav-Eh!

We caught up with him to see what he’s doing now and what he’ll be performing at desiFEST. Check out the full interview below!

If you were to describe your music in one word, what would it be?

Different. The way I do my music, many people don’t do it. It may sound like I have a bit of an ego here and I do apologize to anyone if they take it in the wrong way, but I never tell people/critics to tell me how I should make my music, even if critics give a bad review on your work. Are you doing music for YOURSELF or are you doing it for peoples good opinions? I truly love what I do. I’m not trying to say that people’s opinions don’t matter; the public is what makes you and breaks you. If you’re in their bad books don’t expect it to make it big in this industry. And I really love my fans and supporters to the fullest. But I feel like you will get true fans and support only when you are true to yourself and you do what you feel is right in your heart.

You had Sunny Brown from the Culture Shock Trio produce your first track, Fly Away, and you’ve been given the opportunity to perform alongside the Culture Shock Trio numerous times. What kind of recognition do you think you’ve received from that?

If it weren’t for Sunny Brown, I would NEVER be in the place I am today. I can never deny that fact. Before a producer and an artist. Sunny and I are like brothers and he has really guided me well with my music. Sharing a stage with the Culture Shock Trio isn’t a small deal. We’re talking about the BIGGEST urban desi group. So whatever they do is a big deal. I remember performing at the Culture Shock Music Festival back in 2010. That also took my music off to another level. I got another huge response after that show too. I would like to thank Baba Kahn and the rest of the crew for giving me that opportunity to share that stage with them.

You’ve announced making a music video for your track Fly Away numerous times but fans still haven’t received anything. Is that expected to release anytime soon or at all?

Really long story. Initially I had planned to shoot it at the end of 2010. But unfortunately my grandfather passed away not only did it postpone the Fly Away music video, but it postponed my music in general. But I don’t regret about it at all. I’m sure even my fans would understand that after all family is family and family ALWAYS comes first. Later on when things cleared up, it was around June and I wanted to get the project underway. By the time people/film crew/models/extras/etc started confirming with my management, it was August and Bikram Singh and Sunny Brown couldn’t make it to the shoot due to busy tour schedules. I then thought there’s no point in shooting for a song that was a year old and without the featuring artist and producer. I would rather shoot for something fresh! That’s why I’m filming a music video for my upcoming track next month. I apologize to everyone who waited patiently but the circumstances were not supporting me. I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart.

We’re sorry to hear about your grandfather. We’re sure your fans understand. You performed on the desiFEST stage last year, and you’ve been called back to perform again. How did it feel when you heard the news?

I was overwhelmed. Literally, I started freaking out. Last year was amazing! The support was incredible! I’m so happy to be on board again this year. It’s not easy to get on that lineup. You need to really show what you got (hearing from me who has been trying to get on that show for a really long time). People think it’s all about filling a form and THATS IT! You’re on the lineup. And when SatsB mentioned in the DesiLeak that I’m in his #1 hustler category, I felt REALLY good! I felt like I was untouchable haha! I really appreciate the fact that they looked at my work and considered putting me on their lineup again.

What’s something different you will bring to the stage this time at desiFEST?

Well now that I’ve been put on this BIG lineup, I need to be able to deliver. I’m working on a crazy set. I’ve been actually working on it for the past few months. I like to make a heart to heart connection with anyone that’s watching me perform. They’re there to watch you and interact with you. For me, my fans are a part of my life so I make sure that I always show them that every time I perform. Hella nervous! I have this thing where I start freaking out 5 mins before I go on stage. So I hope it all goes well!

What are you working on right now?

I’m currently working on my debut album “Asoka” which is going to come out end of this year/early next. I’m going to be dropping my first single off the album entitled Aaja (Let Me Love Ya). It’s a dance vibe which is produced, arranged, written and recorded by myself. The single is releasing on June 1st and will be available for download on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic and all other leading online music stores.

Thank you for taking time out to do this interview. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans and our UrbanAsian.com readers?

No UrbanAsian, thank-you! Thank-you for taking the time out to find out what’s been going on with me! It’s because of your team and all the fans that I’m at this level right now. I just wanna say that I love all my fans and supporters to the FULLEST and thank-you for reading. I’ve been a little low-key with my music but god willing everything will fall in place. Thank-You all so much!

Come check out Dav-Eh performing live at desiFEST in Toronto on May 26th at Yonge-Dundas Square at 2:30PM.
