Bollywood mourns the death of filmmaker Raj Kanwar

Renowned Bollywood film producer and director Raj Kanwar passed away in Singapore today (February 3rd, 2012) following a kidney ailment.

The 50-year-old filmmaker who gave us hits like Deewana, Judaai, Laadla and Andaazhad gone to Singapore for a kidney transplant, but sadly, died before surgery (according to Indian press).

Tweets have been pouring in from members of the Indian film fraternity, since the news was announced.

Shah Rukh Khan who rose to fame with Kanwar’s Deewana, tweeted:

“My friend raj kanwarji passed away. The impermanence of life, makes one feel so helpless. May his soul rest in peace. Aisi Deewangi..miss u sir.”

Priyanka Chopra tweeted:

“I’ll miss u Rajji..had just met him at my trial for don 2..he always encouraged me..till date.”

Lara Dutta Bhupathi tweeted:

“R.I.P. Raj ji. Friend, director and guide. Bid goodbye with a very heavy heart! :-(. We lost a kind, gentle, positive man.”

Abhishek Bachchan tweeted:

“Terribly saddened by the passing of Raj Kanwar. Was the 1st person to sign me after Refuggee. He made Aishwarya and my 1st film together.”

His body is due to be flown back to India with talks of a cremation taking place this Sunday (February 5th).
