If you were around NYC last Saturday, January 21, 2012, the place you wanted to be was Hudson Terrace for the 5th Annual Aquarius Charity Affair!
The event is the brainchild of our very own, The Urban Nerd (aka Raj Jhaveri), who hosted a birthday party for Aquarians (of which he is one) and continued his tradition of throwing a poppin’ party on his birthday for charity.
This is the 5th year that Raj has held such a fundraising event, which happens once a year on his birthday. In prior years, Raj has hosted the event in cities like Boston, but now that he’s a New Yorker, party central was the Hudson Terrace, an up-scale venue in Midtown Manhattan, New York. We at UrbanAsian were one of the sponsors for the event, in addition to sites like Shaadi.com, Convey, IndusTuesdays, LuvTheWorld, Luxemi, and TheUrbanNerd.
As always, the event was completely free, but proceeds for charity were raised via bar sales and donations. This year’s causes were Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Clean Water Projects through Convey, and SAMAR (South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters).
Like prior years, the event this year also attracted some big names. If you had a keen eye, you would have seen tennis powerhouses, the Uberoi Sisters (Neha Uberoi and Shikha Uberoi), DJ Flawless – who dropped his hot new EP (available for free download) at the event, Jay Dabhi – who made a surprise appearance at the event, in addition to many others. Of course, you could’ve seen some of our UrbanAsian team there as well – Nimesh (“Nemo”), Amrita, Kishan, and even me!
Some mingled, some couldn’t get enough of the Kyotofu cupcakes, but most couldn’t get themselves to leave the dance floor! The DJs for the night did an amazing job and included DJ Insomnia, DJ Bornswift, and DJ Flawless.
The event was a huge success, having reached capacity only 2 hours into the night! We were proud to be part of such a wonderful event. Overall, it was a great night and a great event for an even greater cause – charity! We’re looking forward to next year!
