Aruna Irani wins Filmfare's Lifetime Achievement Award!

Aruna Irani has been a part of the Indian film industry since she was just 9 years old! The talented actress has given a 51 years to the industry and Filmfare took the time to recognize the actress with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Idea Filmfare Awards 2012!

 

Ramesh Sippy and Raveena Tandon were given the honor of presenting a teary eyed Irani with her award.

 

“This is a very touching moment of my life; it’s the happiest moment of my life,” said Aruna Irani. “Thank you Filmfare for giving recognition to my work. Thank you Dilip Kumar saab for introducing me to the wonderful world of films at the age of 9 years. The industry taught me acting, dance, work, and gave an uneducated woman like me a platform. I came into the industry to execute a responsibility. I’d like to thank my family. My husband. My brothers. My fans. Thank you Filmfare for this immense happiness. God, you’re very kind.”

 


Aruna Irani was a child star whose rise to stardom began in Dilip Kumar’s Ganga Jamna in 1961 at the age of 9! She’s played the female lead opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Mehra in films like Bombay to Goa and Do Phool respectively. Her biggest claim to fame was the super hit Caravan where she played a negative role.  After that, Irani gained a lot of attention for her work in negative roles and as a supporting actress. Some of her prominent Hindi films include Bobby, Prem Nagar, Roti Kapda aur Makaan, Khel Khel Mein, Laila Majnu, Karz, Rocky, Dil To Pagal Hai and Haseena Maan Jayegi.

 

She won the Filmfare for the first time in 1985 for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap. In the 90s, she graduated to playing motherly characters with her most prominent performance being in Beta (1992), which starred Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Beta won Irani her second Filmfare trophy.  Other than Hindi films, Aruna Irani has also worked in Gujarati and Marathi films where she played the female lead. She also worked in the Kannada remake of Beta playing the same character as in the Hindi version.


In early 2000, Aruna Irani shifted her focus to television and produced TV serials like Mehendi Tere Naam Ki and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. Currently, Irani has prominent roles in Jhani Ki Rani and Sony TV’s latest hit, Dekha Ek Khwab! With so much experience and talent, the still beautiful Aruna Irani is the perfect candidate for this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
