Salman Khan donates bricks to Gurudwara

Salman Khan is known to have a heart of gold.  He is a generous actor who gives great weight to doing charity and caring for one another. Hence, he founded the charity “BeingHuman” that reinforces the message of caring for humanity!

There have been many stories about Salman’s good deeds and social work.  The most recent tale, however, of Salman’s generosity relates the account of how Salman donated 3 lakh bricks to Gurudwara Sahib in Patiala.

How did this come about? Well, the story goes that while shooting for his film Bodyguard in Patiala, the Chief Granthi of the nearby Gurudwara – Gurudwara Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib – paid a visit to the actor. Granthi told Salman Khan that the gurudwara is in dire need of the funds. This Gurudwara happens to be one of the holiest shrines in the region and is visited by many worshippers a day.

Upon hearing his tale, Salman agreed to make a donation to the temple. Of course, knowing how Bollywood stars are, the Granthi was not sure whether Salman would stick to his word. However, Salman isn’t like most celebrities! After finishing the shoot and returning to Mumbai, Salman fulfilled his promise that he made to help the Gurudwara Sahib ‘s organization.  He promptly sent the amount to the trustees of the Gurudwara Sahib to help in reconstructing a new wing of the Gurudwara.

Affirming the news, one of the members of the crew said , “Yes Bhai did this as he was told that they would require that many bricks to repair the complete boundary of the Gurudwara.”

To quote Salman ‘s brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, “Around the commando Training School where we shot, people have strong faith in the Gurudwara. So all of us, including Salman, visited the holy spot on the first day, and went back to seek blessing on the last day.”

If this story is not enough to get you to commend Salman’s social endeavors, in July Salman Khan was seen donating blood at a camp organised by a city NCP leader to mark the birthday of Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar.  The donation drive was to aid victims of the Mumbai blasts.

Salman’s newest release “Bodyguard” hits theaters on August 31, 2011 on the eve of Eid!  Here’s wishing him success!
