Bollywood Love What's Happenin'

Hollywood love affair with India

Hollywood celebs have always had love for India – journeying there for spiritual enlightenment and a break from their fast-paced paparazzi driven lives back home in the US.  However, ever since Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley got married in Jodhpur, Rajastan (India) back in 2007, other celebs seem to be flocking to the state for their weddings as well.

Arun Nayyar and Liz Hurley

In 2007, actress Liz Hurley married Arun Nayar, who belongs to a wealthy textile business family. Their wedding was a huge multi-day affair with fireworks, fire-eaters, and hoards of media reps (scarier than the fire-eaters, I’m sure!) The wedding took place in an Indian Palace. Earlier in the year, Hurley was even scouting for a haveli to purchase in Rajastan. Unfortunately, news soon broke that Hurley and Nayar are separating, so perhaps the starlet may opt to relocate to UK or US.

Since the Hurley-Nayar wedding, singer Katie Perry and her now hubby, comedian Russell Brand opted for a Rajastan wedding as well a few months back. New Year’s Eve 2009, Russell Brand had proposed to Katy Perry in the historic Indian city of Jaipur. So the two decided it was appropriate to get married in India as well.

The wedding was held in October of this year where Perry and Brand married at a resort next to a Rajasthan tiger sanctuary – the Aman-i-Khas resort . Some reports revealed that the couple and guests violated wildlife rules.  However, the rest of the wedding was controversy free.  The wedding was done in traditional Hindu style with Brand and Perry both wearing traditional Indian clothes to the wedding – Perry in a sari. Perry, like a typical Indian bride, even had a mehndi ceremony before her wedding where henna designs were applied on her palms and hands.  The two managed to keep paparazzi from obtaining pictures, so there are very few pictures of their Indian wedding.

Now, continuing the trend, super stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have been known to frequent India often, have decided to finally tie the knot… but desi style.  Like the Perry-Brand wedding, the ceremony will take place in true Hindu style – mantras and all – in an ashram in Rajastan. The Pitts are no strangers to Rajastan and had made a two-day trip, as a family, in October 2006.

A confirmed date has not yet been set, but the rumor is that the wedding will be held in the “Adyatma Vigyan Satsan Kendra” ashram located in Chopsani area of Jodhpur. The wedding ceremony will be conducted by the 83 year old founder of the ashram, Siddha Guru Siyag. Guru Siyag established the ashran only 20 years ago in Jodhpur and has been frequented by Joli-Pitt many times for help with obtaining spirituality and peace. The tagline for the ashram is “Guru Siyag’s Siddha Yoga For Spiritual Evolution & Holistic Healing.”

The marriage will be the third for Jolie (earlier married to Johnny Lee Miller and then Billy Bob Thorton) and the second for Pitt (who was earlier married to Jennifer Aniston).  Earlier in the year, Jolie told Parade Magazine: ““The children certainly tie us together, but a relationship won’t hold if it’s only about the kids. You also must be really interested in each other and have a really, really wonderful, exciting time together. We do. Brad and I love being together. We enjoy it. We need it, and we always find that special time. We stay connected. We talk about it. It’s very important.”  It’s about time a wedding took place since the two have 6 kids together: Maddox (9); Pax (7); Zahara (5); Shiloh (4); and twins Knox and Vivienne (2).  All the children have use the last name “Jolie-Pitt.”
