Bollywood used to put only men at the center of big action films but Sonakshi Sinha comes smashing in and changes that with her eagerly awaited thriller Naam Hai Akira releasing in North American theaters on September 2 over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Joined by co-stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Anurag Kashyap, the Fox Star Studios film is directed by A.R. Murugadoss who won audiences over with past films like Ghajini and Holiday.

Akira is the name of the film in India, whereas Naam Hai Akira is the name of the film in North America. The film is a gripping action thriller about a college girl Akira played by Sonakshi Sinha, who has grown up with the ideals of being self reliant. Her life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime involving four corrupt police officers and she takes them on single-handedly in a bid to prove her innocence.
