Acclaimed actor, anchor and writer Sumeet Vyas has been in the limelight for his excellent acting and hosting skills . The charm of the man is such that you see him and you want to fall in love all over again. Today, Sumeet is one of the leading stars of the web world. He plays the very affable ‘Mikesh’ in TVF’s super hit web series Permanent Roommates – also widely recognized as India’s very first web series. We got in touch with Sumeet to speak of how it all began, here’s what he had to say:
How did acting happen for you?
I went to watch a play at Prithvi theatre, in which my father was acting, I went backstage and it felt like it was home, it had a peculiar smell which, made me feel like I belong here. ( it was basically cigarette smell mixed with perfume. I have a thing for smell.)
Mikesh and Tanya have become an ideal for couples across the globe. How does it feel?
It feels great, it’s the kind of stuff I would read in magazines about other characters and actors from famous shows and films, and now it’s happening to me. It’s a great feeling. But a huge credit goes to the writing.
What attracted you to Mikesh’s character?
The simplicity, his honesty, the tangent that he’s on TVF.
Tell me about a time where you had difficulty getting into the skin of the character. How did you overcome the challenge?
It happened many years ago when I was acting in a play called ‘park’, and I had kind of switched off from social life for a month, to understand where the character was coming from and to get there.
You recently anchored for Box Cricket League. Please share your experience.
Anchoring is a scary job I was always fascinated by it, but had never done it before. But I like to throw myself in uncomfortable situations, so I attempted it. I learned a lot, I am not sure how good I was, that only the audience can tell.
What prompted you to take on a web series?
The content and the intent of the people behind it. They just wanted to tell a story with utmost sincerity, and I was lucky to be a part of this process.
Tell me about a time when you had a really bad day, but had to perform no matter how bad of a day you had.
Well my grandmother passed away recently and I was shooting a romantic scene that night. That was tough. So I decided to not tell anyone on the set so everyone could be normal.
Have you ever gotten star struck?
Yes, when I met Sachin Tendulkar for an ad.
What kind of roles do you prefer?
All kinds, like these days I’m sick of playing the nice guy, so I’m very keen to do something more serious and grey.
If you could change one thing about the entertainment industry what would it be and why?
That it should remain an art form and not become a family business. And also due to the corporate coming in, everyone is only talking numbers. I thought we were all here to listen to and tell stories.
