Today marks the 96th birthday of world-renowned musician Pandit Ravi Shankar. Pandit Ravi Shankar is credited for spreading awareness of Indian music all over the world. On this day, even Google has honored him by having a Sitar sketch in their daily doodle on the home page!
Pandit Ravi Shankar was a Sitar practitioner of the Hindustani style of classical music, which has its origins in North India. Throughout the course of his career, he traveled all over the globe, teaching and performing at various prestigious venues. In 1999, the Indian government awarded him the Bharat Ratna, one of India’s highest honors.
