Ranbir Kapoor hired a professional to learn how to mimic Dev Anand!

When I first had a glance of Matargashti I fell in love with the Dev Anand part of the song. Not just the lyrics which compile names of Dev Anand songs and movies, but also Ranbir’s fantastic impersonating acting of the legend actor Dev Anand!

I’m not the only one who picked this up though. People from all over are praising his Dev Anand act in the song Matargashti from Tamasha. These praises even include his co-star and best friend, Deepika Padukone! She is in awe seeing his Dev Anand performance.

Ranbir said that he wanted to mimic Dev sahab properly so he hired a professional to learn from him and said,

I wanted to learn to speak and act like Dev sahab so I hired a mimic artist. He taught me very nicely and that reflects in the song. I think for an actor it is important to learn the craft properly.

Ranbir added that Imtiaz Ali wanted to give the hakuna matata feel to the song where two lovers or friends are having a good time and that why the song has gotten so much love!

He didn’t just display his Dev Anand performance in Matargashti though, we even got to see it again in this dialogue promo clip. Which reminds me that back in 1952 Dev Anand was in a film called Tamasha directed by Phani Majumdar. Do both these films have anything in common other than their titles? And is there some significance to Ranbir’s character as Ved in the film to Dev sahab.

Tamasha is directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Sajid Nadiadwala. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The music of the film is by AR Rahman and lyrics are by Irshad Kamil. The film is set to hit the big screens on November 27!
