Mumbaikar Ram Subramaniam had no idea that a small hashtag would stretch miles across the border to bring about. Much needed change. Aggravated by the recent emergence of intolerance of Pakistani celebrities in Mumbai, the civilian took on the responsibility of sharing the message of love for Pakistanis in India with the world.
This past Thursday, Ram Subramaniam used #profileforpeace with a selfie, in which he held a note that read,
“I am an Indian. I am from Mumbai. I don’t hate Pakistan. I am not alone. There are many people like me.”
Soon the hashtag took over social media attracting the attention of both Indian and Pakistani celebrities. Public figures including Aditi Rao Hydari, Raghu Ram, Rajiv Laxman and Ali Zafar helped trend the hashtag while promoting tolerance and positivity on both ends of the border.
If you want to join in on the action, share a selfie using the hashtag and some brief thoughts on the idea of loving your neighbor as yourself!
