After 11 years of being apart, Geeta an Indian citizen is reunited with her homeland. Geeta arrived in Delhi on Monday morning, days after she identified her family in photos sent from India.
Upon her arrival, she met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who welcomed her with open arms. Geeta, who has speech and hearing impairments, was a pre-teen when she accidentally crossed the border and landed herself in Pakistan.
In recent times, India and Pakistan have witnessed its share of strain and animosity between one another. Let’s hope that Geeta’s return strengths the bond between the two nations as it did in Salman Khan’s film Bajrangi Bhaijaan which is an adaptation of the incident.
