Shweta Subram to perform at PM Modi’s Canadian Reception!

It’s a rare opportunity to perform for one prime minister, let alone two.  However, Shweta Subram, has been chosen to perform in front of India’s Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, and Canada’s Prime Minister, Mr. Stephen Harper – leaders of two established democracies.  Mr. Modi has been visiting various developed nations to solidify India’s relationships with the rest of the world.  He is well respected and well liked by western leaders, including the US’s President Obama.  Mr. Modi has now landed in Canada and is being accompanied by Mr. Harper as they bolster economic ties between India and Canada. As part of his journey, Mr. Modi will also court Canada’s influential Indian diaspora, through a key event organized on Wednesday, April 15 at Ricoh Coliseum in downtown Toronto.

Shweta Subram is the perfect choice for this Canada-India union.  She is a Canadian vocalist of Indian heritage, and will be inaugurating this event with national anthems of India and Canada.

Shweta considers this a major honor and says,

“I was in India when Mr. Modi was elected as prime minister. He has a loyal following and is working hard at developing a more capable India. Mr. Harper has led the Canadian government for almost a decade. I’m looking forward to the meeting of these two leaders and am honored to perform Canada’s and India’s national anthems in their presence.”

Shweta’s performance will be accompanied by a ceremonial welcome by the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).

This will be Shweta’s second performance at the Ricoh Coliseum. In 2011, Shweta rocked the stage at IIFA Awards with Bollywood maestros Salim-Sulaiman through their rendition of Khuda Ke Liye.  She was picked up by The Piano Guys to create Khushnuma, an Indian adaptation of Swedish House Mafia’s Don’t You Worry Child, which has crossed 11 million views on YouTube. In addition, Shweta recently made her Bollywood playback singing debut through Dil-e-Nadaan alongside Ayushmann Khurrana for the movie Hawaizaada. This year, Shweta became the youngest vocalist of Indian origin to perform at Carnegie Hall. Her performance in front of Mr. Modi and Mr. Harper is another feather in her hat, among many more that are sure to come her way.
