Sarika was Shonali Bose’s first choice to play Kalki’s mom in Margarita with a Staw!

Shonali Bose originally thought of veteran actress Sarika when she was casting for her film Margarita with a Straw. For those of you who don’t know, Sarika is an award-winning actress, and Shruti and Akshara Haasan’s mother. Shonali Bose thought Sarika and Kalki look similar enough to pass for mother and daughter, and of course the actress would do the role justice.

Unfortunately Sarika had to wait 3 months for Kalki to be free to shoot and could not wait that long, she had to give the dates to another project instead. Thus Revathy was then chosen to play the role of Kalki’s mother. Speaking about Revathy, Shonali Bose said,

“I told Revathy to read the script then she said she wants to do it. She has done a fabulous job in the film,”

Margarita with a Straw is a beautiful film about a girl with cerebral palsy and how she faces the challenges of a growing girl from crushes to school. Starring Kalki Koechlin, and Revathy, Margarita with a Straw will break all barriers. The film releases April 17th, be sure to check it out!
