Five times society stereotyped the unconventional!

Imagine the chaos if you ever attended a wedding in bright orange clothes a multicolored hat paired with weird length pants. Everyone would stare, laugh and pass judgments. That is probably why we may never dress like that to a wedding, but for a person who is considered different due to various reasons has to go through stereotypical treatment by society every day. One such film that looks at breaking stereotypes is ‘Margarita With A Straw’.

Here are five instances that society has stereotyped as ‘not normal’
because they didn’t fit into the norms of society

Appearance:

I’m sure we have all pretty much come across a classmate or colleague who not only dared to dress differently, but also had numerous tattoos. They were usually the first ones to be judged as they don’t ‘fit’ in to what society deems as appropriate and they are often seen as thugs.

Profession:

We often judge a person’s intelligence and/or capability based their profession. If a person is a teacher, he or she must be strict, while a janitor has to be uneducated.

Personal choice:

We are quick to judge when it comes to other people’s marriages or relationships like if the girlfriend or wife is elder than the boyfriend or husband or if a couple wishes to have a live-in relationship or if a couple is in an interracial relationship or if someone chooses to remain single, they are judged regardless and of course if you’re a woman, the degree of judgement grows ten-fold.

Weight issues:

If one’s weight doesn’t fit into the confines that society has set for us, that person will be judged irrespective of the other qualities the person has to offer.

Sexist assumptions:

Girls can drive, but boys should drive. Boys shouldn’t cry, but girls should cry. If a girl rides a motorcycle, she is immediately regarded as someone who breaks rules and doesn’t know how to behave. These are twisted notions.

The hit film, ‘Margarita With A Straw’ shows the journey of a teenage girl who has cerebral palsy. She goes on to break stereotypes and embraces life and that’s the idea we should all follow! What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comment section below.
