Rape: It’s Your Fault! The Views Still Haven’t Changed!

With International Women’s Day (March 8th) drawing closer, women in India still wonder if being a woman is something they truly have the freedom to celebrate. Just this Monday, BBC announced the release of Nirbhaya rape case assailant Mukesh Singh’s exclusive interview which will be held on Women’s Day. The statements released by Singh in the interview, however, are nothing short of despicable, anti-feminist, and outright repulsive. This brings the nation back to where it was when the Nirbhaya incident happened.

Less than a year after the incident, All India Bakchod (AIB) released a video featuring Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin titled Rape:It’s Your Fault. The video depicts scenarios of victim-blaming and revictimization of the victim by the criminal justice system and society at large. Shockingly enough, these scenarios still stand true a year and half later.

Let us bring back the true meaning of Women’s Day this year by making our homes and our communities a safer and equal place for women!
