Leslee Udwin’s documentary film, India’s Daughter has encouraged producer, Siddhartha M. Jain to release his film, Kill The Rapist on video-on-demand sites. The film will reportedly be online in mid-April. It was written and directed by Sanjay Chhel and produced by Siddhartha’s company, iRock Media as a reaction to the Delhi gang-rape in 2012 of Jyoti Singh or as she’s popularly known, Nirbhaya.
The thriller-drama film revolves around three women and a man who tries to rape one of them. Anjali’s (Anjali Patil) home is broken into by a man (Sunny Hinduja), who attempts to rape her. Anjali and her friends then turn the tables on the attacker and subject him to a mock trial. It’s poses the questions that are being raised in society about what kind of punishment rapists should be given, especially honing in on whether or not they should be sentenced to death.
Kill The Rapist had wrapped up in August 2013, but the release has been delayed due to Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), who had denied the certificate at the initial viewing stage. Eventually, the movie was given an adult certificate with some cuts.
