Akshay Kumar has made history by working with acclaimed British stuntman, Greg Powell, a first-timer to Bollywood, who rose to prominence partly from his work on the iconic franchises Harry Potter and James Bond (Skyfall). Akshay has been guided by Powell for the upcoming, highly anticipated film, ‘Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’, in which he plays Virat Bakshi, a military officer who is on holiday with his battalion in his bustling home city of Mumbai. Unbeknown to his fellow officers, Virat is also an undercover Secret Defence Intelligence Agent, trained in covert anti-terror intelligence operations.
Whilst it is a well known fact that Akshay Kumar always impressively executes his own stunts in films, this action thriller will see Akshay take his physical prowess to new heights. It has been said that Powell was very impressed by Akki’s fitness levels and dedication to carrying out each and every stunt to perfection.
“He is great to teach. He loves to rehearse. His memory is fantastic. In five minutes, he picks up all the moves,” said Powell.
Scrupulous planning went into each of the stunts, all of which were completed on their first-take, thanks to Powell’s expert advice and Akshay’s precision. The Khiladi star’s fitness levels could be said to be largely down to his to long-standing commitment to Martial Arts. In fact, Akshay was once a martial arts trainer in Mumbai, after learning Muary Thai combat sport in Thailand. He also had the title of Shihan, which translates to teacher’s teacher and is due for his 7th degree black belt in Karate imminently. Fans are set for an absolute action-packed treat with ‘Holiday’, which is littered with authentic Akshay style stunts.
