The Body is a suspense story that revolves around Maya Varma (Sobhita Dhulipala), whose body goes missing from the morgue under mysterious circumstances.

The case is being investigated by SP Jairaj Rawal (Rishi Kapoor) who keeps an eye on everything. In his consideration, Maya’s husband Ajay Puri (Emraan Hashmi), is hiding something and might have done the murder.

The film showcases Maya as a powerful businesswoman and Ajay as a person who works in her lab as the director and also gives guest lectures.

The two are married but later Ajay gets attracted to Ritu (Vedhika Kumar), who he met during a guest lecture in the college. The student-teacher affair takes a turn and the story build-up where Maya dies and her body goes missing from the morgue.

The truth behind their marriage and everything around it starts to unfold. The film looks like it has suspense but if you notice from the start you might guess the fact that what’s actually happening. The story line of The Body does not bring anything new to the table as far as the mystery-thriller genre is concerned. There are fewer surprise moments and it ends up faster than it takes off.

Director Jeethu Joseph has shortened the story in a very light manner. The filmography has a decent background score but fails to keep you on the edge and ends up being another run-of-the-mill. Unlike all other Emraan Hashmi films, the music of this one was also missing.

Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi

Talking about the performances, Rishi Kapoor as a cop was quite convincing as a character trying to get to the bottom of this twisted love story. Emraan Hashmi is always worth watching on screen but this time his magic didn’t spark on us. Sobhita Dhulipala as a rich millionaire and still not knowing what’s happening around her is not so convincing. Vedhika has a good screen presence but feels like a misfit, especially in the second half. All the other supporting actors have played their part well.

Overall the film is good but not good enough to hold your attention. We give ‘The Body‘ 2.5 stars.
