Mere Pyare Prime Minister touches many social issues but none touches your heart.
A story about four children living in Mumbai slum in India. An eight-year-old boy, Kanhu (Om Kanojiya) writes a letter to the Prime Minister after a dramatic incident with his mother (Anjali Patil).
Have you ever had that moment of dilemma where you had planned to buy socks and ended up buying everything else but socks and this sums up Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and his fellow writers Hussain Dalal and Manoj Mairta’s mindset.
The direction of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra could’ve avoided the overtly melodramatic climax sequence where he lands in a life and death situation doing what he has been doing since he learned to walk. But everything is not wrong with this flick, some ideas stick like the scenes where Kanhu give away free condoms to adults while asking them to use it cause they are adults, the scene included in the trailer where Kanhu argues with God.
The cinematography is on point. The decision to shoot the movie in slums of Ghatkopar gives you a perspective of life in slums. The music of Shankar Ehsaan Loy lacks spunk for the second time after Manikarnika: The Queen Jhansi.
Kanhu and his mom, Sargam around whom Mere Pyaare Prime Minister revolves have good chemistry and Makrand Deshpande, Rasika Agashe have impactful characters.
Mere Pyaare Prime Minister will keep you engaged but won’t affect you.
We give Mere Pyare Prime Minister 2.5 stars.
