“Kakuda” on ZEE5 Global has released to audiences worldwide, and presents a story of wit, humor and mystery all in one.
The film, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, stars Saqib Saleem, Sonakshi Sinha and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles. It follows their characters as they attempt to navigate through a love story while also dealing with the superstition of Kakuda, a ghost that attacks men in the village only on Tuesday nights if their doors are closed.
Saleem and Sinha’s characters, Indira and Sunny, are in love and decide to elope since her parents do not approve of their marriage, yet the only auspicious date is on a Tuesday, leading to the arrival of Kakuda on Sunny’s doorstep. If Kakuda curses the men who don’t open their doors, they become hunchbacks and eventually die. Sunny gets cursed, and from there, both Indira and Sunny attempt to find a solution and unmask Kakuda. In enters Riteish Deshmukh’s character Victor, a ghost hunter who can communicate with ghosts, and he arrives to help Sunny and Indira deal with the curse.
Deshmukh brings the perfect blend of comedy and drama to his character as an eccentric ghost hunter. He’s adopted a new look for his character, including piercings and tattoos, which is a look that audiences haven’t seen him in before. Although the film starts off slow, it adds layers of suspense as Sinha’s character tries to figure out who Kakuda is in order to save her husband.
Sinha plays a double role as Indira and her twin sister Gomati, which comes as a surprise to viewers since that isn’t revealed in the trailer. Gomati seems to have a connection to Kakuda, and Indira has to figure out who she truly is. Sinha does a great job at differentiating herself in both characters, so that the viewer is clear that they are two separate personalities.
