The second season of Amazon Prime’s Inside Edge released recently. The series takes off from where season one ends with everyone all set for the next upcoming season of Powerplay League (PPL).
Season 1 rewind:
The first season wrapped up on a nerve ending note. In the last season, we witnessed Zarina Malik (Richa Chadda) hitting Vikrant Dhawan (Vivek Oberoi) with a powerful blow from the bat on his forehead leaving us baffled about his condition thereafter. We also saw Arvind Vashishth (Angad Bedi) under police arrest and no longer a part of the Mumbai Mavericks. Vayu Raghavan (Tanuj Virwani) takes over the mantel as the captain of the MM. We also saw Prashant Kanaujia (Siddhant Chaturvedi) kill his mentor Devender Mishra (Amit Sial) in a fit of anger post their last match.
What’s new in season 2?
This season we are introduced to the mastermind behind all the spot fixings in the first season – Bhaisaab aka Yashvardhan Patil (Aamir Bashir). He controls the Indian cricket and pretty much owns Indian cricket. He is the man who changed the face of Indian cricket. We are also introduced to his daughter Mantra (Patil Sapna Pabbi), the new co-owner of Mumbai Mavericks post the exit of Dhawan.
This season we see a strained relationship between Rohini (Sayani Gupta) and Prashant. We also see Prashant suffering a guilty conscious for killing Devender. In Inside Edge 2 we are also see Zarina embrace her dark side and enter the world of betting as a major player.
While the concentration is high on the game, the game behind the game, and the game behind the game behind the game, it also incorporates some light moments like the sweet love life of Vayu.
Performances
Aamir Bashir brings to life the character we only heard of and whose voice we heard in the first season of Inside Edge. Vivek does survive this season – no spoilers, it’s in the trailer – but he is nothing like he was in the last season. He is shown to have a bit of a more humane side.
Richa incorporates the dark side of Zarina like a pro – showcasing how she is no longer a weakling but is a boss lady. Tanuj is still strong-headed but now understands the responsibilities placed on him. Angad’s graph from being the naïve captain in S1 to becoming the guy set out for revenge in S2 is noteworthy.
Sayani continues her role as an analyst with a twist and a slight switch in loyalties. Sapna, who is making an appearance for the first time in the show – convinces us with her performance. Sid convinces you of the trauma the young Prashant is going through after killing his mentor.
Talking about positives and negatives, the series has a lot of both. The story is gripping and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. You won’t be able to put the phone don’t until you see the final twist in the last episode. The dialogues are good and will keep you entertained.
Talking about the negatives, the twist might get a bit predictable and you keep guessing what the next will be.
We give Inside Edge Season 2 3.5 stars.
