TRIGGER WARNING: Mention of domestic violence and abuse
The film is the first for Sanon as a producer and an actor, as her new production house Blue Butterfly Films partnered with Netflix to produce the film. It’s also Sheikh’s debut in the film industry, after working extensively in the OTT and television spaces.
‘Do Patti’ stars Sanon in a double role as troubled twins Shailee and Saumya, who have an incredibly complicated relationship from childhood. Both sisters fight over the affection of Dhruv Sood, the son of a politician, played by Shaheer Sheikh. The film delves into the topic of domestic violence and abuse, as Dhruv’s anger leads to physical violence against Saumya throughout their marital life.
Through her performance, Sanon has solidified herself as one of the best actresses in the Hindi film industry. She perfectly enacts the fear and shock a woman goes through when she’s abused by the person she’s supposed to trust the most, while also portraying the sinister and selfish role of Shailee, who holds animosity towards her sister.
Making his film debut, Sheikh plays a negative character for the first time in his career, yet gives an incredibly convincing performance as an abusive and violent husband. THere are several moments throughout the film where, as an audience, you can see the charm in Dhruv Sood’s character, yet the next moment, he’s completely evil.
While the screenplay and writing is a bit slow at times, the overall performance of Sanon, Sheikh and Kajol makes the film worthwhile. ‘Do Patti’ is now streaming worldwide on Netflix!
