Anil Kapoor’s newest film ‘Subedaar’ just released on Amazon Prime India, and audiences are geared up to see Kapoor in a new type of role.

Kapoor’s character, Arjun Maurya, is a retired soldier who is struggling to return to civilian life when he travels to a remote village in Madhya Pradesh with his daughter, Shyama Maurya played by Radhika Madan. The story explores Arjun’s battle against local corruption in the police department, and societal dysfunction with gangs in the area, while attempting to mend a broken relationship with Shyama post the demise of his wife. Maurya quickly gets entangled in the violence and unrest within the community, and has to use his skills as a soldier to protect himself and his family.

Kapoor adds a layer of nuance to his performance in the film as the character of Maurya is different from other roles he’s played recently. In the beginning portion of the film, the audience sees Maurya battle with both sides of his personality when being confronted by the gang, and the subtlety Kapoor brings to the character helps the audience understand his distress.

Radhika Madan’s character Shyama is the epitome of a distant only child who is fierce and strong when it comes to standing up for herself. In one particular scene in the beginning of the film, Madan confronts a male student in her college who has been teasing her through text and making her uncomfortable, and it’s inspiring to see how she stands up to him in front of the entire class.

Mona Singh has been making a comeback to the OTT space, whether it’s Netflix or Amazon Prime video, and she once again stuns in her role as a local don. Audiences haven’t seen Singh in this type of role previously, and she pulls off the character impeccably.

‘Subedaar’ is now streaming on Amazon Prime video worldwide!
