“We’re facing an unprecedented time in our history. This is a decision that was not made lightly,” Doug Ford, announced today at Queen’s Park, Toronto.

“COVID-19 constitutes a danger of major proportions .. We must act decisively, we must not delay,”.

The province of Ontario will now begin to mandate the closing of restaurants and bars due to the Coronavirus. Businesses who offer takeout and delivery options will resume as normal. 

The Canadian province has officially prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people Until March 31st. This includes indoor recreation centres, theatres and concert venues, libraries, places of worship, private schools and daycares. This currently does not apply to public transit, shopping malls, grocery stores and pharmacies. 

Doug Ford also emphasized that the State of Emergency does not constitute a, “provincial shutdown.”

Current statistics confirm that there are now a total of 177 cases of the Coronavirus within Ontario. A majority of these cases are within the Greater Toronto Area with some isolates cases throughout the province.
