LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Composer and pianist, Raashi Kulkarni, will release her debut EP, titled “Raashi,” on January 5, 2018. The lead single, “Humraahi,” will launch with a video, directed by Dominique Sheth, produced by Sarah Rosenberg and Madison Stevens, and shot by Adriana Serrato, all of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
Kulkarni, a 2016 graduate of University of Southern California’s Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television masters program, began working on this EP before moving to Los Angeles.
“I wrote the first song, ‘Humraahi,’ in 2013, when I was at a point of transition in my professional and personal life. The song is about being vulnerable, which represents how I was feeling at that time. I knew I had to open myself up to taking risks.”
In five tracks, Kulkarni’s work represents a journey, focusing on stages of feeling vulnerable, finding strength, and realizing peace.
“These are stages that many of us feel at varying periods of our lives. No matter who you are, or what your background is, we are all on a journey. The songs tell a story of my journey, one that I’m excited to share with listeners around the world.”
Inspired by many aspects of Kulkarni’s musical background, the EP fuses cinematic elements with Indian, Western classical and jazz influences.

The EP includes the following tracks:
“Humraahi,” featuring vocalist Mugdha Hasabnis, guitarist John Lee, percussionist Jomy George.
“Rise,” a virtuosic piano piece performed by Kulkarni.
“Strong,” co-written with Kulkarni’s sisters, Shivani and Roopali.
“Yaatra,” a cinematic, Indian classical fusion featuring clarinetist Shankar Tucker, hammer dulcimer player Max ZT, and percussionist Jomy George.
“Zen,” which includes 26 layers of Kulkarni’s vocals to create a choir and features violinist Raaginder, electric cellist Akshaya Tucker, and percussionist Jomy George.
