Bollywood’s most talked about summer film, “Shanghai”, has received much critical and audience acclaim alongside government concern. The film’s song “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” has received much negative attention for its lyrics, which have been cited as “unpatriotic” and disrespectful to India.
The song speaks of discomforts such as dengue, malaria, and cow dung and also mentions governmental weapons. The Mumbai unit of the Congress Party publicly protested the song and called for its deletion from the movie and any radio or television airtime. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed; however, it has now been rejected by the Delhi High Court.

Music director and composer to the flim, Vishal Dadlani of Vishal-Shekhar, took to Twitter to address the High Court’s decision and give his thanks:

@V1SH4L: “PIL against #bharatmatakijai frm Shanghai, REJECTED by the Delhi High Court! The Court has
protected freedom of speech! Many thanks!”

@V1SH4L: “BHARAT MATA KI JAI! And today, with no sarcasm at all, and with deepest thanks to the
Delhi High Court!”
