Mix it up, mash it up, and get up with Delhi 2 Dublin

It’s not every day that you hear a band describe their music as “Celtic Punjabi.” But that is exactly how the members of Vancouver-based band Delhi 2 Dublin would describe themselves. This band is no stranger to blending together completely different types of music. They take the term “world music” to another level by mixing together Bhangra and Celtic music, along with reggae, dubstep, and electronica, and creating a total jugalbandi.

Delhi 2 Dublin is made up of six members: Sanjay- vocals, Tarun- Tabla and Electronics, Jaron- Fiddle, Sara- Fiddle, Andrew- Electric Sitar and Guitar, and Ravi- Dhol. They have played at many events in Canada, the United States, as well as around the world. They also performed during at 2010 Olympic celebrations in Vancouver. After performing in San Francisco on St. Patrick’s Day, D2D continued to travel the world with Brunei as their next stop, and Jakarta, Indonesia right after. They then made their way to Bali where they will be performing at the Bali Spirit Music Festival. They have also released three albums since the group came together in 2006 and are releasing their fourth album, “Planet: Electrified” on April 26, 2011.

The unexpected mix of instruments, beats and lyrics give Delhi 2 Dublin a uniqueness that puts them in a genre of their own and will most certainly make you want to turn it up, get up and dance.

Check out some highlights from the show in San Francisco this past St. Patrick’s Day as well as a question and answer session with Tarun.
