As Indian Couture Week 2021 comes to an end, we can’t help but gush over the latest “Love Is‘ collection by designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock. Shooting for the bridal collection took place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Taj Mahal, Agra. This momentous photoshoot makes them the first and only designers in the world to ever shoot within the precincts of the Taj Mahal.
The theme and mood behind the collection is an ode to the ultimate symbol of love: The Taj Mahal.
In their own words, the collection seeks “to translate the visionary saga of love by borrowing from the beauty of Taj Mahal”.
Season of Sage
First, the sage green lehenga contains a sea of beads, sequins, and Swarovski stones. The cropped corset comes with a tasseled blouse and tulle Dupatta. Consequently, the eye-catching makeup by Mehak Oberoi puts the whole look together combining a nostalgic yesteryear vibe with a modern-day oomph. Typically, an underutilized color for bridal, I for one am a fan of the re-emergence of pastels this season.
Go Big or Go Home
Statement sleeves always add the much-needed glamour for any bridal wear. This scarlet red trail lehenga comes with adorned stones and beads. Moreover, the whole ensemble pops for its full sleeve blouse with a puffy feathered shrug. Honestly, the simplicity of the trail juxtaposed with the bigness of the blouse is a huge win for me.
The Reign of Red
While red will always remain the classic color choice for bridal lehengas, the one below comes with a nice twist. In the ocean of red lehengas making noise this Couture season, Falguni Shane Peacock’s crimson-based, multicolored lehenga is definitely high on the list. As you can see, the lehenga is replete with architectural and floral motifs. The corset blouse (now known as Falguni Shane Peacock’s signature aesthetic) contains exquisite handwork and sleek cuts. Along with this, you have tassel details and tulle dupatta secured with a belt that would leave the bride feeling nothing less than royalty.
The Bolder the Better
Bubble gum pink. Bright feathery bows. A queen’s cape. Lots of sparkles. One of the boldest looks of the collection is the bubble gum pink lehenga replete with intricate geometric details. The feather bow accentuates the whole look making sure the woman that wears this is the center of everyone’s attention and admiration. The cape with the long trail elevates the grandeur.
Historical Regalia
Finally, the dusty rose pink-based, ivory Kurta is reminiscent of the ivory-white marble mausoleum. A more modest creation, the Kurta set depicts elephant motifs with foliage detailings. Much like other Falguni Shane Peacock pieces, beads, crystals, and stones accompany this piece. However, one must mention the vivacious flared sleeves that gives the piece its character.
