The night was a celebration of purity, craftsmanship and textiles. Sanjay Garg orchestrated a show which unveiled a celestial collection at the Grand Opening Night show of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017, Day 1.

Presented at the exquisite Royal Opera House, the city’s premier heritage site, the night’s show enthralled the evening’s guests. Adding to the grandeur of the venue was the presence of Ms. Simone Tata, who played a pivotal role in steering the brand in its early years.

Lakmé‘s beauty range is enriched with the magical Argan oil, known to be a wonderful nourishing ingredient. This magic ingredient took center stage and formed the inspiration for Sanjay Garg’s ‘Cloud People’. Giving Liquid Gold and Lakmé‘s beauty theme a new perspective, Garg’s designs represent pureness, richness and an ethnic raw feel that captivated the audience.

Garg’s designs were synonymous with the innocent purity and bliss that angels represent. The intricate details revealed soft feathers and scalloped clouds of angels in flight which were made in handcrafted Chikankari on Bengal mul, zardozi and hand-woven brocade. The angelic motifs, floral prints and geometric figures gave a serene and other-worldly aura to the whole collection.

Just like Argan oil is known to blend with the skin to make it lustrous and flawless, the drapes and minimalist work of Sanjay’s designs became one with the body to exemplify class and poise.

Speaking about his show this evening, designer Sanjay Garg says,

“Working with Lakmé Fashion Week is always a pleasure. This show tonight, and especially at a heritage venue like The Royal Opera House is very special. It truly feels like I have come full circle as Lakmé Fashion Week was where I had my first show. The Lakmé Absolute show this Winter/Festive season has been very special as well – this is my first collection featuring this embroidery of Chikankari.”

Commenting on the aesthetic opening show, Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovations, Lakmé, said,

“Sanjay’s approach on manifesting Liquid Gold through his use of angel motifs against a precious colour palette, aptly complemented the precious new Lakmé Absolute Argan oil range of skincare and makeup. The Royal Opera House was a poignant venue, given the opera origin of the brand name Lakmé.”

Donald Simrock, Makeup Expert, Lakmé, who further enhanced our beauty theme said,

“For this look, we created dark tones under the eye using the Lakmé Absolute Kohl Ultimate and adding depth to the look by muting the eyebrows. For the lip, we went with a natural shade in crimson hues from the Lakmé Absolute Luxe Matte Lip Color range. The lip was inspired from the natural reaction after having a ‘paan’- betel leaf. We completed the look by keeping the skin dewy and perfected using the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Oil-in- Crème.”
