Lakmé Fashion Week : aLL – The Plus Size Label Presented The Wendell Rodricks Plus Size Bonanza

aLL – The Plus Size label, said forget the Zero, look happily towards the Plus sign and make sure you are the voluptuous god/goddess that Wendell Rodricks wants every man and woman to be.

Wendell Rodricks presented the ‘aLL PRIMERO’ collection at the second Plus Size show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017. Here was a show that broke myths about Plus Size fashion where colour, style and fabrics were concerned and was a rocking sensation on the ramp.

Don’t worry about sweating those kilos off nor envy the reed thin beauties on the ramp. Now fashion truly became democratic when Wendell Rodricks and Schulen Fernandes created the ‘aLL PRIMERO’ line that will flatter men and women with great curves and ample muscles like the Apple, Pear, Hourglass, Rectangle and Carrot shapes.

The Plus Size Store, launched its PRIMERO collection with Wendell Rodricks at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 17. After making their debut at Lakmé Fashion Week last year, aLL – The Plus Size Store, chose to collaborate with renowned fashion designer Wendell Rodricks this year for a collection titled aLL PRIMERO which seeks to break popular myths regarding plus size clothing in the fashion industry.

Varonica Campabell, India’s first transgender plus size model, opened the show for aLL – The Plus Size Store, in association with Wendell Rodricks at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive’17.

Varonica along with 20 other plus size models who walked the ramp were selected through an audition held in June. The audition was opened to all plus size people and had over 300 participants.

For most people plus size simply means curvy or voluptuous but there are a range of shapes and sizes under that bracket. aLL – The Plus Size Store and Wendell Rodricks have chosen to embrace and cater to these various shapes and sizes and this was evident through the collection and the finalists who were chosen to walk the runway.

Hetal Kotak, CEO, aLL – The Plus Size Store revealed,

“aLL: The Plus Size Store has been a pioneer in the Plus Size Fashion Industry with a strong belief that fashion is for everyone and that size is just a number. It is our constant quest to give our customers the latest in fashion to suit their body type and hence this season we have collaborated with ace designer Wendell Rodricks to bust popular fashion myths with our very first designer collection PRIMERO. We’re sure that PRIMERO will breathe a new life into the fashion industry”.

Designer Wendell Rodricks, said,

“I have always wanted the fashion industry to be size inclusive and this collaboration with aLL -The Plus Size Store takes it one step further. There are so many restrictions put on plus size fashion whether there are certain colours that flatter their shape or a fixed silhouette. With PRIMERO, we’re breaking all these myths and prevailing rules and regulations,”

The ‘aLL ‘PRIMERO’ collection was a rule breaker starting with the colours – white, which has been taboo for too long where Plus sizes are concerned was very much in now. Then it was neutrals, grey and clothes with great volume that gave confidence to the wearer.

The fabric choice too was adventurous with modal featured in moss crêpe, Lycra, cotton satin, jacquard, polyester georgette, single jersey, Lycra cotton and mercerised Giza for men’s T-shirts. Linen dobby stripes were an interesting part along with over-dyed twill Lycra that was perfect for men’s and women’s jeans.

Men’s shirts featured deconstructed plackets, mull bundies, tunics, and twill cotton. The Lycra shirts with contrast stitch detail, poly knits, silver speck foil prints, crush pleated poly georgette and pewter shine stripes completed the extensive fabrics and detailing choices.

Women’s wear was a kaleidoscope of colours as fluid creations floated down the ramp on the jaunty confident models. Layered tunics, asymmetric gowns, swinging dresses, capes and kaftans -some speckled with silver heart motifs.

Ending the high octane show was the finale surprise – ace singer and actor of musicals like ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Deveika Bhojwani dressed in a glamorous magenta and purple long creation by Wendell Rodricks serenaded the audience with a great rendition of the foot tapping number of the popular hit song ‘Killing me Softly’’.

The looks created by Lakmé Makeup Expert, Donald Simrock were created with varied interpretation of different personalities. Playing with the range of colours from the new lip colours, to bring out the difference in personalities, each model had a different lip colour.

Here was a collection that celebrated the Plus Size figure and stated ‘Don’t hide those sexy curves behind dull clothes’ could be the slogan of the show. Go for the aLL ‘PRIMERO’ collection by Wendell Rodricks – forget the ‘Minus’ sign and worship the ‘Plus’ factor and watch how fast compliments engulf the wearers wherever they go.
