#LakmeFashionWeek: The Sari in us by 'Anavila'

Inspired by the deep relationship Indian women have with the sari drape, this collection was interestingly presented in a series of installations. Four distinctively curated styles – festive, romance, work and street, each showcased three coordinated looks in saris.

“Every drape is carefully planned keeping the occasion in mind,” says Anavila Misra.

“I believe there is a sari for every mood. It is easy to revive this relationship we have with our saris.”

Against a brilliant gold backdrop, the festive saris came alive in strong metallic hues. Pulling the look together with delicate accessories, the style is ideal for this merry season.

A sensuous drape, against a pristine white floral backdrop, spelled pure romance. The luxurious flow of the rich textile, its soft movement over the contours of the body and the gentle colour palette makes for the perfect date night ensemble.

Moving forward with the next installation of the sari at work! Neat, practical and no-fuss drapes went well with the big day-bags and tablets. Standing tall against a backdrop of structured grids, the three looks for work made the sari seem like an easy 9 to 5 option.

And finally the sari-on-the-go, a randomly assembled style look for those who playfully wear the drape and tweak it to their own personal style! It offers comfort, easy movement and a street-chic look to the Indi drape.

Supporting the sari, patrons of brand Anavila – Dolly Thakore, Priyanka Bose, Sona Mohapatra and Tillotama Shome.

“It is all about your own relationship with your sari,” says the designer. “It is one garment that fits all, remains a classic and can be as versatile as you want it to be.”

Handwoven linens have never looked this luxurious as Anavila brings the sari back in vogue with the Lakme Fashion Week this season.
