Her recent quote praising global star Nora Fatehi goes beyond admiration, it points to a fundamental shift in how dancers are positioned within Bollywood and on the world stage.

Check out the post:

Kalpana speaks of a time when dancers were remembered for moments, not careers. While today many leading actresses dance, often within larger, more prominent film roles, she acknowledges that before this transition fully took shape, Nora occupied a singular space.

“Until they started happening, she was the queen,” Kalpana notes, recognising how Nora defined popular dance culture when few others did. Her observation that Nora “doesn’t depend only on movies” underscores a freedom dancers of earlier generations rarely had.

“She’s smart enough to take the decision,” she says, pointing to a clarity that allowed Nora to adapt before the industry forced change upon her.

What truly marks the evolution with her entry into the pop-culture, that is how Nora expanded the ecosystem itself. In recent years, she has performed on international stages, collaborated with global music artists on tracks like Snake with Jason Derulo, Oh Mama! Tetema ft Rayvanny or Just A Girl with Shenseea, appeared at major international award ceremonies, led high-impact brand campaigns, and built a powerful digital and pop-culture presence beyond Hindi cinema. Her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon marked her first American television debut, a moment that firmly positioned her as a global performer.

This evolution continues. In a recent announcement, Nora revealed an upcoming international collaboration with David Guetta and Ciara for Firestarter.

In applauding Nora Fatehi, Kalpana Iyer isn’t just celebrating talent. She’s acknowledging progress, and how the definition of success for dancers has been rewritten, from special performances to global recognition.
